![]() I frequently say everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not all opinions are created equally, and if you post a deeply flawed one in a public forum that has up and down votes built right into the interaction you must expect you’ll get toasted. This is not your fault, but the amount of discussion here about an album that is CLEARLY the work of a band experimenting and figuring out their direction (not debatable) is starting to make me actively push back. There are only a few bands that even try to conjur these days, and most today that are trying are just derivative nonsense. It takes you on a journey, but it's too literal and dystopic for my tastes. Jerry could flip the switch, but the band as a whole had to just give it a go and see what happened. They could achieve magic at will, magic the grateful dead where trying to conjur but could only randomly (and inconsistently) achieve through free form jam improv half way through their second set. They can pick you up and take you somewhere else entirely in just a few minutes, in just one song. IDK they're all great.Īnd while I'm ranting - that song encapsulates what I like best about Pink Floyd. ![]() Think it trumps the solos in Mother, Echoes at Pompeii, you name it. That first solo uptick to the song is transformative. IMO it's the closest they get to being 'loose' too, like in a Grateful Dead 'lets just let it ride and see what comes out of it' kind of way. Live at the BBC is the best solo he's put down live/studio or otherwise (IMO). ![]() And IMO, contains the song which, when played live, contains the greatest song David Gilmour contributed to their catelog (IMO) - Fat Ole Sun. ![]()
